はじめまして。
はじめて投稿させていただきます。
まだ会社に入って間もない新人です。
よろしくお願いします!

さっそく"ログ出力"に関してですが、tomcatでコンソールの内容をファイルに落とす
にはどうしたらいいのでしょうか?一般的にはserver.xmlを編集することにより出来
ると書いてありますが、よくわからないんです。どなたか詳しく教えてくれる方がお
りましたらお願いいたします!!

以下に自分の使っているserver.xmlの内容を記述します。
どこを編集するといいか教えてください!

CATALINA_HOMEのlogsの下に、
既にログはできているようにも見受けられるのですがいかがでしょう?
Tomcat4.*ですよね?このxmlを見る限り。

ちなみにサーブレットのエラーを明示的にログに吐き出すなら
javax.servlet.ServletContextの
log(String)メソッドを使ってあげるのが簡単かなと。
実際にはログ出力のクラスを作ってしまった方が使い勝手はいいと思います。
もっともシンプルな実装はこんな感じ?

コード:

実際にはこれをSingletonパターンやMonostateパターンで表現したり、
Exceptionを引数で渡せるようにしたりともっと改良するとは思いますが。
ちなみにJakartaがLog4Jというログ出力用の
オープンソースのAPIを提供してくれていたりもします。

ayumさん、ありがとうございます。
説明不足で申し訳ありません。

tomcatのヴァージョンは4.1.7です。
ログは作成されてはいるんですが、コンソールと同じ内容にしたいです。
それは無理なのでしょうか?

現段階で行っていることはJSPを作って例外処理を発生させてログにエラーを通知しています。
でも、logsディレクトリのlogファイルには例外処理のエラーが記述されません。

説明不足かもしれませんが教えていただけたら教えてください!!

コンソールと完全に同じというわけには行かないでしょうが、
例外をキャッチしたところでその例外のメッセージを
自分でログに吐いてあげればいいのではないでしょうか。
そうすれば少なくとも例外の情報はログに残せます。
fillInStackTraceメソッドでスタックトレースを埋め込んであげれば
得られる情報量は実質変わらないと思います。
上のサンプルクラスを使うならこんな感じでしょうか?

コード:

あとは exception の stacktrace をバッファに吐いて
それを自分でファイルに落とすなり log.put するなりすればいいです。

ayumさん、しょむさん、ご返答ありがとうございます。

stackTraceをバッファに吐いて、ファイルに落とす方法でうまくできました。
StackTraceElemantで配列に一つずつ、getStackTraceで格納して、ファイルに落とす
ことでうまくいったようです。
内容的にも、コンソールに出力される情報と同じにすることができました。
